Where Are We?

The Centre is based in a 4 storey Georgian house two-minutes walk from Highbury and Islington Station (Victoria Line underground, and London Line overground). Buses 4,19, 30 and 43 stop outside the Centre.

Visiting the Centre

The Centre is open during school terms, Monday – Friday 9am to 5pm.

Holiday Opening Times

Half Term: First Tuesday of the Autumn, Spring and Summer half-term holidays.
Summer Holiday: Tuesday of the first and last weeks of the holiday.
The Centre may be open at other times by arrangement.

You are very welcome to visit us to browse and purchase publications during our opening times but please ring first to make an appointment.

Lettings

Our Coffee and Seminar rooms are available for hiring on a daily basis. Facilities include: TV, VCR, DVD, Data projector and interactive whiteboard. Contact Fran Stowell for more information and to discuss your requirements: 020 7359 8080.

Who are we and what do we do?

The Centre is an independent educational charity with a national and international reputation as a Centre of Excellence. It is a development centre, serving the needs of secondary and FE teachers and students of English and Media Studies in the UK and beyond.

EMC offers:

- a variety of professional development courses. If you have an idea for a course you would like us to run, let us know by emailing Kate Oliver.

- over 70 print and audiovisual publications for the classroom, and EMCDownload, with downloadable resources available online.

- emagazine and MediaMagazine, quarterly magazines for A Level students.

- consultancy/advisory work - Please email Kate Oliver to discuss your needs.

- expert contributions to national initiatives and debates on English and Media teaching.

Consultancy and Advisory Work

In addition to the one and two day professional development courses run at the Centre, we work with departments, schools, school networks and LAs on longer term projects and consultancies. Recent off-site projects have included: cross-curricular literacy, creativity, improving writing, media.
