Child Language Development

Why should you attend?

This course focuses on the Child Language Development topic of the English Language A Level for all specifications. We will be focusing on the latest research into children’s linguistic development, how to engage students with child language data and ways to approach the big debates in the field. We will also discuss ways to develop and maintain your subject knowledge and offer practical suggestions for classroom activities and language investigation projects.

What will the course cover?

  • The basics of the topic.
  • The most recent thinking in the field, with Dr Catherine Laing.
  • Sourcing texts and data, adapting material and developing resources for the course, including using child language corpora.
  • Ideas for introductory lessons and student projects to suit your students’ interests.

NB. This draws on last year’s Child Language Development course and some of the material will be repeated.

I always come away brimming with ideas.
