EMC CPD Online: Keep up with The Kite Runner (Twilight 11.10.22 4.15-5.45pm) Part of the 2 for 1 offer – see 'How to book'.

This EMC lecture will focus on The Kite Runner and the lively debates it has aroused, drawing on Nicolas Tredell’s edited collection (published 2020) of new essays on Hosseini’s novel for the Salem Press Critical Insights series. It will consider such topics as The Kite Runner’s literary and popular reception, its key stylistic features, its mixed and multiple narrative techniques, its engagement with trauma and tragedy, its portrayal of Afghanistan and its peoples, its gender representations, its stage, screen and graphic novel adaptations, and its relation to Hosseini’s later novels.

This session is one of a series at EMC, where an academic is invited to offer fresh angles on a popular set text, engaging teachers at an adult level, enriching their thinking about the text and updating their knowledge of recent research. As such, the emphasis will be on the text itself and critical exploration of it, rather than how to apply these ideas in the classroom.
