Learning from 2017: GCSE English Language (AQA)

Why should you attend?

This course offers the chance for teachers to reflect on the experiences of the first cohort to take GCSE (9-1) in discussion with colleagues and EMC consultants. The day will include a session from Graham Elsdon, whose experiences as a consultant, assessor and teacher will help you firm up your thinking about different types of student performance and ways to develop students’ writing. We will then consider practical ways to address concerns and make improvements for the benefit of students sitting the exam in 2018. The focus will be on AQA English Language. If you are following a different spec and would like to ask how relevant the course will be for your needs, please contact Kate.

What will the course cover?

  • Addressing key messages from the examiners’ reports, for example teaching students how to: deploy terminology judiciously; comment on a writer’s ‘methods’; compare texts; plan and structure the writing tasks more effectively.
  • Reviewing your course plan in a supportive environment.
  • Time to share experiences with colleagues from a range of institutions.

One of the best courses I have ever attended. I feel that this has been a very worthwhile day.
