Teaching Poetry Successfully at KS3 & KS4

Why should you attend?

Poetry forms a significant part of the GCSE curriculum. It can be a pleasure to teach and study, but it can also be a challenge for both teachers and students. This course will equip you to approach the teaching of poetry with confidence and to make the most of poetry writing to expand students’ creative writing repertoire. Peter Kahn's twilight at EMC in 2019 on engaging students with reading and writing went down so well that we have invited him back. He will be assisted by his colleague, Christian Robinson.

What will the course cover?

  • The poetry challenge? Attitudes which may be holding your students back and how to overcome them.
  • Tried-and-tested ways to approach a poetry anthology.
  • Strategies to prepare students for tackling unseen poetry with confidence.
  • Great classroom ideas for sparking student writing.
