Before, during and after reading activities to support the teaching of The Bone Sparrow as a class reader.
Drawing on approaches explored in EMC’s Teaching a Novel at KS3 project, students are encouraged to read the novel at a lively pace, and to engage with the story, its themes and its ways of telling, critically and creatively – with plenty of opportunities to explore and then build on personal response.
The overall approach and the carefully-selected activities support students in learning not only about this novel, but about narrative more generally, learning how to read, discuss and write about literary texts.
