As a department we had been struggling to move away from habit of formulaic teaching to the exam that the old specification had allowed and which was, in my opinion, capping students appreciation of the texts. But after the training I had the confidence and the resources to step away from formulaic close analysis of language into a wholistic and more critical approach. I was the only member of the department who used the resources consistently and who changed their approach last spring and as a whole these students performed better in their language exams. I believe this was because they felt more confidence in their own ideas and weren’t restricted by ‘device spotting.’
The course and resources were fantastic and provided my students with the confidence and wholistic approach which enabled them to achieve brilliant results! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to any teacher of English!
