No. The emagazine or MediaMagazine username and password you set will only give access to the student (subscription) area of the website.
Only when signed in to your account via the 'Account sign-in' button (see top right) will you be able to buy and download publications, book courses, apply for conference places, manage your magazine subscriptions.
It's important to keep access to the main account and student areas separate. Signing you out of your account before you sign in to a magazine student area ensures your account details are kept secure.
You will first need to register an account by clicking on the 'Account sign in' button in the right-hand corner.
Once registered, sign in to your account.
(Please note: if you are signed in to the emagazine or MediaMagazine student area, you will not be able to buy publications. Sign in to your account first via the 'Account sign in' button.)
If you have registered and signed in as a UK school, you will be offered the option to pay securely by debit card or credit card or to request an invoice.

To download the publication to your computer, click on the PDF, zipped folder etc icons to begin your download. Please make sure you click on all the icons alongside your publication title. (Some of our publications come with several files.)
Your publication will download to the location specified in your browser settings, for example your desktop or a folder called 'Downloads'.
If you try to open a file before it has finished downloading you will get an error message.
Do not try to use the file in your internet browser (Safari, Explorer, Chrome, Firefox etc.).
We recommend that once you have downloaded your publication you make a local back up to avoid having repeatedly to download very large files. However, should you need to download your publication again, sign in to your primary account on the English and Media site and go to 'My Account'.
If you have any further queries, please email Lucy.
You will need Adobe's free program Acrobat Reader 9 or above. You can download the latest version here.
In December 2020, Adobe withdrew Flash Player, used to embed and play video clips within PDFs.
So that you still have access to the video clips included in our Video PDFs, we have now made these available as a zipped folder of files. These are available to download from the account on which you bought the download publication.
These videos can be played using the free program VLC Player. This program, recommended to us by a school IT Manager, can be downloaded here: https://www.videolan.org/
The folder of video files is available in the account you originally used to buy your download publication.
Your download publication will be stored in your account on the English and Media Centre website.
To access your downloads:
This depends on the preferences set in your web browser.
First make sure you have saved the file to your desktop. Do not try to use the file in your internet browser (Safari, Explorer, Chrome, Firefox etc.)
The video clips are included in a zipped folder which needs downloading separately.
As the zipped folders are large they can take some time to download (how long will depend on the speed of your internet connection and the time of day you are downloading the file – early morning will be quicker than in the middle of the day – but allow about 1 minute per 20MBs). If you try to open a file before it has finished downloading you will get an error message.
To view and print PDFs, please ensure you open them with Acrobat Reader 9 or above.
You can download the latest version of this free application by clicking here.
Follow the instructions to install the latest version of the Adobe Reader program. Once it is installed and you have agreed the license, open the program. Don’t just double click on the PDF icon as it may open the file in your old version of Reader.
Go to ‘File – Open’ and navigate your way to the PDF you have downloaded.
